Odisha Vigilance Seizes Record ₹4 Crore Cash from Deputy Mines Director
In a landmark anti-corruption operation, Odisha Vigilance officials seized over Rs 4 crore in unaccounted cash from the residence of Debabrata Mohanty, Deputy Director of Mines, Bhubaneswar.
This marks the largest single-day cash recovery in the department’s history.
The raid was triggered after Mohanty was allegedly caught accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe from a coal vendor to facilitate depot operations and transportation permissions.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at his Bhubaneswar flat, parental house in Bhadrak, and office chamber in Cuttack.
Investigators discovered gold ornaments weighing around 130 grams and a double-storeyed house in Pahala, Bhubaneswar, in addition to the massive cash haul.
A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The unprecedented seizure has sent shockwaves across Odisha’s mining and administrative circles, with Vigilance continuing its probe into Mohanty’s disproportionate assets.
