Odisha Vigilance Raids Expose Koraput Forester’s Crores in Disproportionate Assets

In a sweeping anti‑corruption operation, Odisha Vigilance officials have unearthed assets worth crores belonging to Niranjan Satapathy, a Forester in the Koraput Forest Division.

The raids, conducted on December 26, 2025, spanned six locations across Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur, and Koraput, exposing a trove of properties and valuables far exceeding his known sources of income.

Satapathy, who joined the forest department in 1988 with a modest salary of Rs 625, rose to the rank of Forester in 2014.

Over his 37Rs year tenure, investigators allege he amassed disproportionate assets, including two palatial triple-storeyed buildings in Bhubaneswar, a 1,250 sq. ft property in Similiguda, and seven highRs value plots across prime districts.

Movable assets seized include approximately 1 kg of gold jewellery, 250 grams of silver ornaments, Rs 9.28 lakh in cash, foreign currency from multiple nations, and bank deposits worth Rs 66.42 lakh.

Officials also discovered cryptocurrency investments of Rs 1.66 lakh in Bitcoin, a TATA Harrier SUV, three two-wheeler wheelers, and household articles valued at Rs 30.75 lakh.

The raids were executed by six DSPs, seven Inspectors, and supporting staff under warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

Satapathy is currently under examination to explain the source of his wealth, while officials continue searches that may reveal additional assets.

This operation underscores Odisha Vigilance’s intensified crackdown on corruption, sending a strong message against illicit enrichment in public service.
