Odisha Vigilance Nets 199 Officials in 15-Month Anti-Corruption Drive
In a sweeping crackdown on corruption, the Odisha Vigilance Department has apprehended 199 government officials over the past 15 months, according to a written statement by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi in the Odisha Assembly.
The arrests stem from 122 bribery cases and 77 investigations into disproportionate assets. Authorities have seized assets valued at Rs 202 crore, underscoring the scale of illicit wealth amassed by some officials.
This intensified vigilance effort reflects the state’s commitment to restoring public trust in governance.
The department has targeted both high-ranking bureaucrats and field-level staff, signalling that no level of administration is immune to scrutiny.
Over the last five years, 3,661 corruption cases have reached the courts and are currently under trial, further highlighting the systemic nature of the issue.
The Chief Minister’s disclosure comes amid growing public demand for transparency and accountability in public service.
