Odisha Vigilance Cracks Down on Disproportionate Assets: Two Officials Arrested
Odisha Vigilance has intensified its anti-corruption drive with the arrest of two government officials for possessing disproportionate assets.
In Malkangiri, Junior Engineer Nihar Ranjan Sarkar was apprehended after searches revealed a triple-storeyed palatial building, eight valuable plots, cash worth Rs 2.11 lakh, and a four-wheeler.
Sarkar failed to provide satisfactory explanations for these holdings, leading to the registration of the Koraput PS case No.40/2025. He will be presented before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore.
Meanwhile, in Koraput, Forester Niranjan Satapathy was arrested from the Semiliguda Forest Range.
Investigations uncovered two multi-storeyed palatial buildings in Bhubaneswar, one in Koraput, seven high-value plots, gold weighing about one kilogram, deposits worth Rs 66.42 lakh, cash of Rs 9.28 lakh, and a four-wheeler.
Satapathy could not justify the sources of these assets, prompting the Bhubaneswar PS case No.31/2025. He will be produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
Officials confirmed that these arrests are part of a larger campaign to curb corruption and strengthen transparency in public service.
Vigilance authorities stated that further inquiries will follow to trace hidden wealth and identify irregularities, underscoring Odisha’s determination to uphold accountability among government employees
