Odisha Vigilance Catches Kaniha CHC Medical Officer Accepting Rs 49K Bribe in Angul
Angul (Odisha): Vigilance officials on Thursday caught Dr Sumanta Kumar Patel, Medical Officer at Kaniha Community Health Centre (CHC), while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 49,000.
According to Odisha Vigilance, Dr Patel had demanded the money from Community Health Officers (CHOs) in exchange for granting financial incentives under the CHC.
Acting on a complaint, a trap was laid inside the CHC premises, where Patel was apprehended red-handed.
The entire bribe amount was recovered from his possession. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at three locations linked to him to investigate possible disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Officials said further investigation is underway.
This incident underscores Odisha Vigilance’s continued crackdown on corruption in the state’s public health sector.
