Odisha Vigilance Arrests Irrigation Engineer Surendra Behera for Disproportionate Assets
(OT Webdesk)In a major crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Surendra Behera, Superintending Engineer of the Irrigation Division in Angul, for possessing assets grossly disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The arrest followed extensive raids at multiple locations linked to Behera in Angul and Bhubaneswar. Officials uncovered two multi-storeyed buildings, two flats, four high-value plots, Rs 2.33 lakh in cash, and bank deposits worth Rs 54 lakh.
Behera failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the amassed wealth.
He has been booked under Rourkela Vigilance PS Case No. 9/2025 and will be presented before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh. Odisha Vigilance confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and further revelations may emerge.
This arrest adds to a growing list of public officials facing scrutiny over unexplained wealth, reinforcing the state’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
