Odisha Utsav Lights Up Kolkata, Diaspora Hailed as Cultural Ambassadors
The National Library auditorium in Kolkata came alive with vibrant colours, music, and dance as the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department organised the first-ever Odisha Utsav outside the state.
Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj praised the Odia diaspora for being “true ambassadors of Odia heritage,” highlighting their role in preserving traditions and strengthening cultural identity worldwide.
He emphasised their contribution to realising the vision of Viksit Odisha 2036.
The event coincided with International Women’s Day, with special recognition for Odia women in the diaspora who have carried forward family traditions and values globally.
The festival showcased Odisha’s rich cultural legacy through Odissi, Chhau, Ghumura, Dhemsa, Sambalpuri and other folk performances.
Exhibitions of Odia cuisine, handloom textiles, and handicrafts added flavour and texture to the celebration.
Distinguished Odia writers and community leaders from the diaspora were felicitated, while dignitaries,s including Dr Bijay Ketan Upadhyay, Dr Chandra Sekhar Hota, Ravi Narayan Mahapatra, Bijay Kumar Barik, and others graced the occasion.
The Directorate of Odisha Paribar was lauded for its support to Odias living outside the state.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Pritish Panda, Officer on Special Duty at the Directorate.
