Odisha Transport Minister Urges End to Driver Protest, Citing Resolved Demands and Public Disruption

(OT Webdesk)In a direct appeal to the striking members of the Odisha Drivers’ Mahasangha, Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena declared that the drivers’ demands have already been addressed through constructive discussions.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Jena emphasised that there is no justification for continuing the protest, especially given its evolving political undertones.

The minister noted that the protest was briefly suspended in support of a Congress rally on July 11, suggesting that the movement has deviated from its original purpose. “The government stands firmly behind the welfare of drivers. Dialogue has already taken place, and prolonging this strike only hurts public interests,” Jena stated.

The transport strike, now in its fourth consecutive day, has severely impacted essential services—particularly bus operations and fuel distribution—raising fears of a potential fuel crisis across Odisha.

Jena urged all agitating drivers to resume duty immediately, stressing that the continuation of the strike disrupts not only commuters but also essential logistical and supply chains across the state.
