Odisha Transport Department Issues Dense Fog Advisory Across Six Districts

The Odisha Commerce and Transport Department has issued a dense fog advisory following alerts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Six districts—Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Sambalpur—are expected to face reduced visibility, particularly during early mornings and late evenings.

Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, under the supervision of Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, directed Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) to intensify awareness campaigns and enforcement measures.

A virtual meeting with senior officials of the State Transport Authority and Deputy Transport Commissioners ensured coordinated action.

The advisory urges drivers to adopt safe practices such as driving at reduced speeds, using low‑beam headlights, maintaining safe distances, and exercising caution on ghats and curves.

It strictly warns against overtaking, sudden braking, use of high‑beam lights, and driving under the influence of alcohol or fatigue.

Commercial vehicles have been instructed to ensure proper headlights, brake lights, and reflectors, appoint experienced drivers, and avoid unnecessary early morning travel.

Authorities emphasised that journeys during dense fog should only be undertaken if absolutely essential.

The department reiterated that public safety must be prioritised, urging citizens to avoid non‑essential travel during foggy conditions to minimise risks of accidents.
