Odisha to Restructure Panchayats by 2027, Blocks by 2029 for Better Governance

(OT Webdesk)In a major push toward decentralisation and improved service delivery, the Odisha government has announced a comprehensive restructuring of panchayats ahead of the 2027 elections.

Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik confirmed that the overhaul will enhance administrative efficiency and bring welfare schemes closer to rural communities.

The restructuring aims to streamline governance at the grassroots level, ensuring better access and transparency.

Block-level reorganization is also on the cards, slated for completion before the 2029 general elections.

Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati has backed the initiative, proposing additional measures to fortify the panchayat system.

The move aligns with Odisha’s long-term vision for inclusive development and empowered local governance.
