Odisha to Plant 75 Lakh Trees on PM Modi’s Birthday | Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0
Bhubaneswar, August 30, 2025 — In a sweeping green initiative, Odisha is set to plant 75 lakh saplings on September 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday.
The campaign, titled Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0, aims to galvanise communities across the state into environmental action.
Banks across Odisha will contribute by planting 2 lakh trees, while government departments, PSUs, NGOs, youth groups, schools, and self-help groups will join hands to meet the ambitious target of 7.5 crore trees by the end of September.
The campaign emphasises not just planting but long-term care, with geo-tagged photos and survival data uploaded to the Merilife portal for transparency.
Saplings will include native and fruit-bearing species like neem, tamarind, mango, and jackfruit, planted across forests, industrial zones, and community spaces.
District administrations will oversee logistics, while panchayats and schools coordinate local efforts. A three-year post-plantation care plan has been outlined to ensure sustainability.
Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu, who chaired the planning meeting, called the initiative “a tribute to the Prime Minister and a commitment to a greener Odisha.” A robust media campaign led by the Information and Public Relations Department will drive public participation across platforms.
Senior officials, including Dr. Arabinda Padhee, Girish S.N., and Suresh Pant, contributed strategic inputs to ensure the campaign’s success.
With meticulous planning and mass mobilisation, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 is poised to become a landmark in Odisha’s environmental journey.
