Odisha to Host India’s First Energy COP in Puri
The Government of Odisha is set to host the inaugural Global Energy Leaders’ Summit (GELS) 2025 in Puri from December 5–7, 2025, positioning the state as a frontrunner in India’s energy transition.
Modelled on the annual COP format, the summit will bring together representatives from the Union Government, 15 Indian states, and over 30 national and international experts to deliberate on India’s long-term energy roadmap.
The theme of GELS 2025, “Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation”, reflects the nation’s priorities for its energy future. “Sufficiency” emphasises affordable and adequate power for all citizens and industries, “Balance” highlights the need to harmonise ecological concerns with economic growth, and “Innovation” underscores the role of technology, finance, and policy reforms in navigating global energy challenges.
Key speakers include Lena Backer, Chairwoman of the India–EU Trade Council; Gauri Singh, Deputy Director-General of IRENA; Pierre Noël, Senior Energy Adviser at the Tony Blair Institute; and Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO of Tata Power.
They will be joined by senior leaders from NITI Aayog, IIT Kanpur, NTU Singapore, and other institutions, ensuring diverse perspectives on energy sufficiency, storage, nuclear power, AI-driven grid security, and renewable innovation.
The summit will be inaugurated on December 6 by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, alongside Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida.
Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and Shripad Naik, as well as Chief Ministers from Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, will also participate.
Beyond policy discussions, delegates will experience Odisha’s rich cultural heritage at the Konark Festival, reinforcing the state’s role as both an energy and cultural hub.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of achieving Net Zero by 2070, GELS 2025 is expected to establish a sustained mechanism for dialogue and cooperation, supercharging India’s leadership in the global clean energy transition.
