Odisha to develop integrated Economic Region covering Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradeep

Bhubaneswar, Dec 24 (UNI) The Odisha government will develop a major Economic Region encompassing Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, and Paradeep, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Wednesday.

Presiding over a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister said the strategic inclusion of Paradeep Port would act as a catalyst for rapid industrial expansion across the region.

The proposed Economic Region is expected to drive growth in sectors such as agriculture and fisheries, manufacturing, transport, port-based industries, chemicals, textiles, information technology, and tourism.

Majhi directed officials to prepare dedicated development programmes to transform cities within the region into “Growth Hubs,” ensuring balanced and sustainable urban development.

To strengthen connectivity, the government plans to construct three major ring roads within the Economic Region.

Under the Capital Ring Road project, a 432-kilometre-long road will be built from Paradeep to Puri via Tangi, Saptasajya, and Rameshwar, in coordination with the Central Government’s Capital Region Ring Road project covering 111 kilometres.

Additionally, an outer ring road measuring 148 kilometres will connect Jatamundia, Trisulia, and Urali in Cuttack district via Balipatana, Pipili, Jatni, and Khordha.

An inner ring road of 65 kilometres will also be developed from Tamando in Khordha district through Chandaka, Pahal, and Dhauli. Altogether, the three ring roads will span a combined length of 645 kilometres.

The development plan also includes enhanced rail connectivity, with proposals for a 32-kilometre railway line from Puri to Konark and a 70-kilometre line from Konark to Bhubaneswar via Nimapada.

The Chief Minister emphasised the need for continuous coordination with NITI Aayog to fast-track project implementation.

He instructed departments to introduce new policies or amend existing ones as required and stressed special attention to tourism development across the region.

The meeting was attended by Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shashwat Mishra, Director of Municipal Administration Arindam Dakua, and other senior officials.
