
Odisha State Law Commission Kicks Off Legal Reform Journey with Inaugural Meeting
Bhubaneswar, July 9(OT Webdesk) — The newly-formed Odisha State Law Commission convened its inaugural meeting today at Toshali Bhawan, signalling a proactive leap toward legal reform and responsive governance in the state.
Chaired by Justice Biswanath Rath, the conference room gathering brought together an esteemed panel including Law Department Principal Secretary Manas Ranjan Barik, Professor Lalit Kumar Deb, Senior Advocate Surya Prasad Mishra, and Saurjya Chandra Mahapatra.
A major highlight was the unveiling of the Commission’s official logo and the release of its public email ID (oslc703@gmail.com), aimed at streamlining communications and encouraging citizen outreach.
The session focused on laying the groundwork for legal reforms, including the formation of a subcommittee under Clause 19(1) featuring Deb, Mishra, and Mahapatra.
This subcommittee will explore areas for legal amendment and improvement. Additionally, Clause 14(2) authorised the Commission Secretary to evaluate and respond to requests from various government agencies seeking legal advice or legislative updates.
This milestone event marks a bold step in Odisha’s mission to modernise its legal apparatus in line with contemporary needs, making judicial processes more efficient, inclusive, and aligned with state development goals.
