Odisha State Commission for Women Celebrates 33rd Foundation Day with Renewed Commitment to Empowerment

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Commission for Women marked its 33rd Foundation Day at the Convention Centre, Lok Seva Bhavan, with a strong reaffirmation of its mission to advance women-led development.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida inaugurated the event, which saw the release of the Annual Report, newsletter Bijayini, publication Passport to Women Empowerment, official website, and Punarmilan, a compilation of reconciliation stories.

Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling emphasised that women’s welfare is the cornerstone of a healthy nation, highlighting initiatives such as the Khushi scheme providing free sanitary napkins to adolescent girls and statewide deworming campaigns.

Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain underscored the importance of skill development, noting Odisha’s international recognition through the achievements of girls trained at the World Skill Centre.

Commission Chairperson Shobhona Mohanty reported that 1,879 cases—including domestic violence, dowry harassment, and sexual harassment—were resolved in 2024–25.

District-level court camps in Bolangir and Gajapati settled 14 cases, while 85 awareness programmes across 26 districts strengthened legal literacy.

The event drew participation from social workers, SHG members, civil society, and students, collectively reinforcing Odisha’s vision of a just, inclusive, and empowered society for women.
