Odisha Showcases Rice Fallow Management at National Pulses Workshop
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare recently organised a national workshop on pulses under the Rashtriya Dalhan Atmanirbharata Mission, chaired by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Madhya Pradesh.
The initiative aims to achieve self‑reliance in pulses, reduce import dependency, and empower farmers.
Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo highlighted the state’s agricultural progress, driven by policy reforms, technology adoption, and climate‑resilient practices.
A key focus was the Comprehensive Project on Rice Fallow Management (CRFM), which seeks to convert rice fallow lands into productive areas for short‑duration pulses and oilseeds during the Rabi season.
For Rabi 2025–26, Odisha plans demonstrations across 3.5 lakh hectares in all districts, positioning itself as a developmental hub for agriculture among the Purvodaya States.
The workshop also saw participation from agriculture ministers of other states, OUAT Vice‑Chancellor Dr. Pravat Kumar Roul, and representatives from ICAR and ICARDA.
