Odisha Shivers: Cold Wave Grips State, IMD Predicts Relief Ahead

Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: Odisha continues to shiver under an intense cold wave as temperatures plummet across several districts, disrupting daily life and leaving residents struggling with the biting chill.

Early Tuesday morning, Jharsuguda recorded 11°C, while G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal dipped to a frigid 5.4°C, making it one of the coldest spots in the state.

On Monday alone, six towns reported temperatures below 10°C, signalling the deepening of winter conditions. Dense fog has compounded the situation, reducing visibility until late morning and causing significant disruption to road transport.

Commuters across the state, including those in the capital Bhubaneswar, faced delays and challenges due to the persistent cold spell.

However, relief is on the horizon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a rise of 2–3°C from today, offering respite to both coastal and interior districts.

Weather experts anticipate that the mercury, which had dipped by 3–5°C in coastal Odisha, will gradually climb, easing the discomfort and bringing more manageable conditions for residents.
