Odisha Shivers as Cold Wave Tightens Grip; Jharsuguda Records 7°C

Odisha is reeling under a severe cold wave as temperatures plummet across multiple districts.

Jharsuguda recorded a biting 7°C at 8:30 am on December 10, marking a steady decline from 14°C earlier this month. G. Udayagiri reported the lowest temperature in the state at 4.8°C, while Rourkela shivered at 9.1°C.

Eleven places across Odisha reported minimum temperatures at or below 10°C, including Semiliguda (6.2°C), Phulbani (6.8°C), Chipilima (7.3°C), and Daringbadi (8°C). Angul and Bhawanipatna registered 9°C each, while Koraput and Sundargarh stood at 10°C.

Dense fog has further compounded the discomfort, reducing visibility and creating hazardous conditions for commuters.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory urging residents to stay warm and exercise caution while travelling.

Authorities have emphasised safety measures to prevent accidents during low-visibility hours.

The Regional Weather Centre has predicted further intensification of the cold wave from December 11, with chilling conditions likely to persist until December 12. As winter tightens its grip, Odisha braces for harsher mornings, underscoring the need for preparedness and community resilience.
