Odisha Shivers as Cold Wave and Dense Fog Grip the State
Bhubaneswar, Dec 28: Odisha continues to reel under a severe cold wave as minimum temperatures dipped below 10°C in more than ten cities, leaving residents struggling with biting chill and reduced visibility.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the cold conditions are likely to persist until early January, with no immediate respite in sight.
Several districts, including Kandhamal, Koraput, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, and Nabarangpur,r recorded notably low temperatures, making outdoor movement uncomfortable, especially during early mornings and late evenings.
Dense fog has compounded the situation, disrupting daily routines and raising safety concerns for motorists.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued dense fog warnings for Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, and Koraput on Sunday and Monday.
While coastal districts such as Puri, Kendrapara, and Ganjam reported foggy conditions, visibility has remained manageable compared to the interior regions.
Weather officials noted that no significant rise in temperature is expected before January 3. A slight improvement may follow, but winter chill is likely to continue across much of the state.
Authorities have urged residents—particularly older adults, children, and commuters—to take precautions, stay warm, and plan travel carefully during fog‑prone hours.
