Odisha Shines on Day 1 of National Para Athletics Championship 2026

Bhubaneswar, March 20: Odisha athletes made a powerful start at the 24th National Para Athletics Championship 2026, clinching five medals on the opening day at Kalinga Stadium.

Sprinter Jayanti Behera stormed to gold in the Women’s 100m T47 category with a timing of 13.17 seconds, while Janaki Oram secured another gold in the Women’s 100m T12 event, clocking 13.81 seconds.

Kabita Prabahue added a silver in the Women’s 100m T13, finishing in 16.05 seconds.

In the men’s events, Ranjit Chanda bagged bronze in Javelin Throw F46 with a throw of 55.55m, and Kamalakanta Nayak clinched bronze in the 100m T53 sprint, clocking 20.81 seconds.

With two golds, one silver, and two bronzes, Odisha topped the medal tally on the opening day, setting the tone for an inspiring championship.

Officials from the Para Sports Association of Odisha praised the athletes’ dedication and expressed confidence in more podium finishes in the coming days.
