Odisha Shines at 71st National Film Awards with Triple Win

Bhubaneswar, August 2(OT Webdesk)— In a landmark moment for Odia cinema, Odisha has clinched three prestigious honours at the 71st National Film Awards 2023, reaffirming its cultural and cinematic prowess on the national stage.

Leading the charge is Pushkara, directed by Subhransu Das, which won Best Odia Feature Film.

Adapted from the acclaimed Odia novel Nadabindu, the film traces the life of Neelakantha, with standout performances by Sabyasachi Mishra and Supriya Nayak.

In the Non-Feature category, The Sea and Seven Villages by Himansu S. Khatua received a Special Mention for its poignant portrayal of climate refugees in coastal Odisha.

Drawing parallels with global crises like Newtok, Alaska, the documentary highlights the urgent issue of climate-induced displacement.

Completing the trifecta, Mo Bou, Mo Gaan (My Mother, My Village), directed by veteran filmmaker Subash Sahoo, won Best Biographical/Historical Reconstruction Film.

Chronicling the life of Seba Bou, a guardian of rural traditions, the film celebrates heritage preservation in the face of globalisation.
