Odisha Shifts Focus to Tree Survival in ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ Campaign
In a strategic pivot toward long-term environmental impact, Odisha’s Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department has redefined success in its flagship afforestation initiative, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0.” Rather than counting saplings planted, the campaign now emphasises survival rates and sustained growth.
At a high-level review meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu, officials assessed the rollout of a robust three-tier monitoring framework introduced on September 22, 2025.
The system aims to ensure accountability across departments and field-level implementation.
A standout feature is the ORSAC-powered digital portal, designed to track plantation health in real time. This tech-driven approach will enable data-backed interventions and foster transparency. To support this, targeted training sessions for field officers are being launched to maximise portal usage.
Sahu praised the collaborative efforts of District Collectors, Divisional Forest Officers, Chief Development Officers, and representatives from Agriculture, Panchayati Raj, and Horticulture departments. “The campaign’s true victory isn’t in the saplings planted, but in those that stand tall and green for generations,” he remarked.
The meeting also saw participation from the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, Principal Secretary of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, and senior ORSAC officials.
As climate change intensifies, Odisha’s renewed focus on ecological restoration sets a benchmark for other states, aligning with national sustainability goals.
