Odisha seeks 800 MW Power allocation from NLC Talabira Phase-II Project

Bhubaneswar, July 29 (UNI) In response to the growing power demand in the state, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo today urged the Union Government to allocate an additional 800 MW of power from the NLC Talabira Phase-II project.

This would be in addition to the 400 MW already allotted under Phase-I, raising Odisha’s total share to 1,200 MW from the project’s total capacity of 3,200 MW.

Singh Deo placed the demand during a meeting with Union Power Minister Manohar Lal in New Delhi.

The deputy Chief minister also raised several critical issues related to Odisha’s power sector. He requested the Centre to sanction Rs.3,069 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to strengthen the state’s power distribution network.

Highlighting Odisha’s vulnerability to natural disasters, Singh Deo emphasized the urgent need for Central Financial Assistance to build disaster-resilient power infrastructure.

He particularly sought support for selective underground cabling along 30 km of the coastal belt, which is frequently affected by cyclones and floods.

Odisha, he said, has made substantial progress in the power sector and, with adequate central support, is well-positioned to not only improve reliability for its citizens but also contribute to the national objective of a robust and resilient power infrastructure.
