Odisha School Closures: IMD Rainfall Alert Shuts Schools in 4 Districts
Bhubaneswar: In response to an India Meteorological Department (IMD) alert forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, district administrations in Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, and Nuapada have ordered the closure of all schools today as a precautionary measure.
The IMD’s warning of intense downpours across southern Odisha prompted swift action from local authorities.
In Koraput and Malkangiri, all government, private, and aided schools have been instructed to remain shut, although teaching and administrative staff are expected to report for duty.
Ganjam district extended the closure to Anganwadi centres and issued a directive requiring government employees to remain within the district headquarters for the next 48 hours. Nuapada followed suit with similar safety measures.
Parents and guardians have been urged to monitor official updates and take necessary precautions. The move underscores the administration’s proactive stance on public safety amid extreme weather conditions.
