(OT Webdesk)Odisha is battling severe floods across six districts—Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar—following relentless rainfall from a low-pressure system. More than 11,000 residents have been impacted, with over 1,000 evacuated to relief shelters in Balasore and Mayurbhanj.
The state government has launched an aggressive rescue and relief operation. In Balasore, five ODRAF teams, one NDRF unit, and 26 fire service squads are deployed.
Other districts have mobilised ODRAF, NDRF, and fire units, supported by 106 boats for evacuation and supply distribution.
While water levels in rivers like Baitarani and Jalaka are receding, Subarnarekha remains a concern, prompting intensified night patrolling in vulnerable zones.
Relief efforts include clean drinking water, purification systems, cooked meals, and anti-venom stocks to address snakebite risks.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and SRC Deoranjan Kumar Singh led a virtual review with district officials.
Additional Relief Commissioner Manish Agrawal is overseeing operations in Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur. The meeting at Rajiv Bhawan underscored Odisha’s coordinated response to the crisis.
Authorities remain committed to restoring normalcy and safeguarding affected communities.
