Odisha PWD Budget 2026–27: ₹13,451 Crore for World-Class Roads, Major Corridors Announced

The Odisha government has unveiled a Rs 13,451 crore allocation for the Public Works Department (PWD) in the 2026–27 budget, with a strong focus on road infrastructure and connectivity.

The vision is to deliver pothole-free, smooth, and world-class roads across the state.

Key highlights include the construction of 15,000 km of upgraded roads over five years, with Rs 7,085 crore earmarked for immediate improvements.

In Bhubaneswar, Rs 350 crore has been sanctioned to widen 20 km of roads to ease traffic congestion, alongside 37 projects under the Capital Road Development Programme, including airport access upgrades.

Three mega corridor projects have been announced:

  • Motu–Tirisingi Road (969 km, Rs 15,000 crore) to connect southern and northern Odisha.
  • Jharsuguda–Baleswar Corridor (383 km, Rs 7,500 crore) linking mining hubs to Dhamra Port.
  • Rourkela–Jaleswar Road (391 km, Rs 2,200 crore) connecting the steel city to Subarnarekha Port.

Additionally, Rs 530 crore has been allocated for central scheme-supported road and bridge works, while heritage preservation receives Rs 200 crore, including Rs 50 crore each for Maa Tarini Pitha and the Ekamra Kshetra cluster.

The proposals were supported by ruling party members and passed in the Assembly, marking a significant step toward Odisha’s infrastructure transformation.
