The festival, scheduled for June 27, attracts millions of devotees from across India and overseas, making security arrangements crucial for maintaining law and order. Alongside traditional customs of Debasnan Purnima (June 11), Nabajouban Darshan (June 26), and the grand Rath Yatra, police officials are focused on crowd management, traffic regulation, and crime prevention in Puri city.

Multi-Layered Security Arrangements

To safeguard the influx of devotees, key measures discussed in the meeting included:

  • Traffic control with road dividers and delineators for smooth navigation.
  • Dedicated emergency response teams in case of unforeseen circumstances.
  • Increased coastal patrols and temporary police outposts near the beach area.

Additionally, Railway Police Forces (RPF) will intensify security across railway stations in Puri, Bhubaneswar, Khurda, and Jatani, ensuring safe transit for pilgrims. Special units, including K-9 squads, Rapid Action Forces, and hotel & lodge inspections, will be deployed to prevent criminal activities.

Managing the Devotee Surge

Given the enormous congregation, Puri’s law enforcement teams will implement:

  • Separate VIP zones with designated helipads for high-profile visitors.
  • Barricade installations are to regulate the Rath Yatra procession smoothly.
  • Extended parking facilities to accommodate vehicles entering Puri.
  • Coordinated efforts with district administration for rapid issue resolution.

DGP Khurania assured that devotees will experience an uninterrupted and spiritually enriching Rath Yatra while police forces remain vigilant and proactive in maintaining order.
