Odisha Police Seize 73,000 Bottles of Illegal Cough Syrup, 181 Arrested in Statewide Crackdown

Bhubaneswar: In a sweeping operation against narcotics smuggling, Odisha Police have seized more than 73,000 bottles of narcotic-laced cough syrup and arrested 181 individuals across the state.

The coordinated drive, led by the Special Task Force (STF) in Bhubaneswar, registered 61 cases in recent days, striking a major blow to the illicit trade network.

The STF recovered the largest haul of 26,658 bottles, while district police units also made significant seizures: Sambalpur (19,908 bottles, 66 arrests), Bargarh (12,856 bottles, 64 arrests), Balangir (5,468 bottles, 23 arrests), Subarnapur (451 bottles, 7 arrests), Boudh (1,886 bottles, 4 arrests), and Sundargarh (595 bottles, 6 arrests). Keonjhar police also reported six arrests linked to the racket.

Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania praised the coordinated efforts, calling the crackdown a “significant step in curbing narcotics smuggling.” He affirmed that similar intensive drives will continue, warning that stringent action awaits those involved in the illegal trade.

This operation underscores Odisha Police’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and safeguarding communities from the spread of addictive substances.
