Odisha Police Roll Out Massive Security Plan for New Year in Puri
As Puri braces for an influx of nearly four lakh devotees and tourists on December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026, Odisha Police have unveiled an extensive security blueprint to ensure safe and peaceful celebrations.
A high-level review meeting chaired by the DIG of Central Range finalised measures for crowd management, traffic control, and emergency response, with special focus on the Shree Jagannath Temple and the town’s bustling beaches.
The deployment includes 60 platoons of police personnel, supported by 10 SPs, 33 DSPs, 62 inspectors, and 245 sub-inspectors.
Specialized units such as lifeguards, ODRAF teams, and STF personnel will bolster safety at key locations.
Surveillance has been intensified with CCTV cameras and control rooms operational from December 29 through January 1.
Traffic plans feature designated parking zones and contingency routes to prevent gridlocks in Puri’s narrow streets. Barricades and public address systems will guide devotees for orderly temple entry.
Preventive actions are also underway, including the invocation of the National Security Act against antisocial elements and seizures of contraband.
Police have appealed to devotees, tourists, and residents to cooperate with authorities and celebrate responsibly.
With tradition blending seamlessly into modern security protocols, Odisha Police aim to deliver a family-friendly atmosphere and a memorable start to 2026 for all.
