Odisha Police Recreate Crime Scene After Arrest in Dhauli Gangrape

Bhubaneswar, Dec 18: Police have arrested the prime accused in the Dhauli minor gangrape case, Satya Prakash Hati alias Joker Happy, and recreated the crime scene to establish the sequence of events.

The incident occurred on December 10 near the Daya River embankment when the victim, a minor girl, was returning home with her male friend.

The accused intercepted their vehicle, demanded money, and, upon refusal, assaulted both before abducting them. The girl was then gangraped at the riverbank.

Earlier, two other accused—Bibhuti Prasad Mishra (32) of Banki, Cuttack, and Kalandi Patra (31) of Olatpur, Cuttack—had been arrested. Joker Happy, a habitual offender with multiple cases, had recently come out on bail and remained absconding until his arrest this week.

Following the arrest, police reconstructed the crime scene with the accused to demonstrate how the incident unfolded. The case, registered at Dhauli police station on December 11, has drawn strong reactions from the Child and Women’s Commissions.

On December 16, commission members visited the police station, met the survivor, and directed strict action. They also conducted a scientific investigation at the site and provided counselling to the victim.

Authorities have assured that stringent measures will be taken to ensure justice and prevent the recurrence of such crimes.
