Odisha Police Launches Statewide Operation Cyber Kavach to Crush Cybercrime Networks

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police has rolled out Operation Cyber Kavach, a statewide drive aimed at dismantling organised cybercrime networks.

Announced by DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on February 11, the operation will run until February 27, targeting mule bank accounts, fake SIM cards, and fraudulent financial activities.

Early successes have already been reported. In Bolangir district, police busted a gang siphoning off more than Rs 5 crore through multiple benami accounts.

Two arrests were made, and investigators seized 29 passbooks, 15 cheque books, a swipe machine, and several mobile phones. In Mayurbhanj district, four accused linked to mule accounts have been identified, with investigations ongoing.

The operation is being conducted with intelligence support from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Special task forces have been formed in each district under the Superintendents of Police, while the Twin City Commissionerate has deployed teams under Deputy Commissioners of Police.

Planned actions during the drive include cracking down on bulk SIM card sellers using fake IDs, monitoring ATM and cheque withdrawal hotspots, and coordinating with banks to investigate suspicious accounts.

DGP Khurania has urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid sharing sensitive information such as bank account details, ATM card numbers, OTPs, or confidential data with strangers.

The initiative underscores Odisha Police’s commitment to building a secure and cyber‑aware state.
