Odisha Police Honors 191 Fallen Heroes on Commemoration Day
The 66th Police Commemoration Day was solemnly observed at the State Police Headquarters in Bhubaneswar, where Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania led tributes to 191 police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty across India this year.
In a poignant ceremony marked by floral wreaths and a two-minute silence, the Odisha Police paid homage to Constable Laxman Majhi of the 2nd IR Battalion, Rayagada, and OAPF Loknath Sabar of UPD, Cuttack. Their families were specially invited and personally consoled by the DGP, who emphasized that their sacrifice would remain eternally honored.
DGP Khurania noted a significant decline in the number of police martyrs, attributing it to the relentless efforts of security forces in insurgency-prone regions. “Thanks to the bravery of our state’s courageous police personnel, we have established peace and security in Naxal-affected areas and will continue those efforts in the days ahead,” he said.
Martyrs hailed from 25 states and multiple central forces, including BSF (23), CRPF (9), CISF (6), and others. Senior officials from various wings of the Odisha Police and state administration were present, reaffirming their commitment to public service and security.
The ceremony concluded with a collective pledge to uphold peace and honor the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
