Odisha Police Hoist Tricolour at Udabali Island Ahead of Republic Day

In a historic gesture of patriotism and coastal vigilance, Odisha Police hoisted the national flag at Udabali Island near Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district ahead of the 77th Republic Day.

The event, led by Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, highlighted the force’s commitment to safeguarding India’s sovereignty across land and sea.

The ceremony was part of a larger initiative announced by Odisha Police to strengthen coastal security with a Rs 149 crore plan.

The programme includes mechanised boats, trawlers, drones, CCTV surveillance at fishing hubs, and modern control centres connected to Bhubaneswar.

Marine police officers will also be deployed at fish landing centres, supported by naval experts and technical advisors.

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive at the 2024 All‑India DGP Conference, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi instructed flag hoisting on uninhabited islands across Odisha.

Over the next three days, similar events will be held at Kanika Sands, Long Wheeler, Coconut Wheeler, Nyatapau, Budhiabali, Hukitola, Kaduapal, Dhanichhada, Parikud, Nalabana, and Kalijai islands.

The programme saw participation from the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Customs, Fisheries Department, Intelligence, Forest Department, and local fishermen.

Senior officers, including ADGP Arun Bothra, DIG Pinak Mishra, SP Manoj Raut, and AIG Satyajit Mishra, were present, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the initiative.

This symbolic act not only celebrated the Republic but also reinforced Odisha’s resolve to protect its coastline and maritime interests.
