Odisha Police Crack Rs 98 Lakh Cyber Fraud, UP Man Arrested in Sophisticated Scam
Bhubaneswar, Sept 13 — In a major breakthrough against digital financial crime, the Cyber Police Station in Bhubaneswar has arrested a man from Uttar Pradesh for orchestrating a Rs 98 lakh cyber fraud.
The accused, nabbed from Bijnor district on September 10, was brought to Bhubaneswar after being produced in a local court.
The investigation began after a city resident filed a complaint on July 4, alleging he was duped through a WhatsApp group that promised high investment returns.
The group, operating via fake websites and digital platforms, lured victims into transferring large sums of money.
According to Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena, the accused was part of a larger network exploiting online investment schemes.
Police recovered Rs 30 lakh in cash, three mobile phones, and four SIM cards during the raid. Two fraudulent websites used in the scam were also dismantled.
Authorities have emphasised the growing threat of cybercrime and urged the public to remain vigilant against online scams. The investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the racket and trace the remaining funds.
