Odisha Police Crack Down on Transgender Murder Case, Third Arrest Made
Bhubaneswar/Pipili: Ramachandi police have arrested the third accused in the murder of transgender woman Anjali, bringing closure to a 22‑day manhunt.
The accused, identified as Chhabina Kandi (35), was apprehended from a hut near Barapada village following a tip‑off.
According to police sources, Chhabina was hiding after allegedly participating in the brutal killing of Anjali. He was handed over to the Pipili police for further investigation.
Earlier, two other suspects had already been arrested:
- Krishna Kandi (25), the prime accused, was nabbed near Nayara petrol pump on the Pipili‑Bhubaneswar bypass 11 days after the incident.
- Sunil Kandi alias Geja (22) was arrested within 24 hours of the crime from Mathasahi under Konark police station.
The trio allegedly attempted to snatch Anjali’s vanity bag, which escalated into a violent scuffle. They then reportedly stabbed her to death.
Police say the arrests mark significant progress in ensuring justice for Anjali.
