Odisha Police Achieves Historic Success in Anti-Drug Crackdown
Odisha Police has achieved a landmark victory in its war against narcotics, destroying over Rs 1,444 crore worth of illegal cannabis and dismantling key drug networks across the state.
In a series of coordinated operations, authorities eradicated 48,160 acres of cannabis cultivation, seized 2.69 lakh kg of cannabis, 1,862 litres of hashish oil, 20.69 kg of brown sugar, and more than one lakh bottles of cough syrup.
The crackdown led to the arrest of 654 inter-state traffickers and the dismantling of a major hashish oil unit in Koraput. Police also seized assets worth Rs 10 crore to weaken financial networks linked to drug cartels.
Beyond enforcement, Odisha has invested in rehabilitation, with 52 de-addiction centres across 29 districts providing free treatment, food, and vocational training. Nearly 19,400 individuals have already been rehabilitated.
Looking ahead, a statewide special anti-drug drive will begin on April 1, 2026, with the ambitious goal of making Odisha drug-free within three years.
Citizens are being urged to report drug-related activities to support this mission.
