Odisha Plans 75,000 New Roads by 2027 to Boost Rural Connectivity

The Odisha government has unveiled an ambitious plan to construct more than 75,000 new roads across the state by 2027, aiming to ensure road connectivity to every village with a population of 150 or more.

Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik emphasised the importance of timely execution, directing officials to complete pending projects within the stipulated deadline.

Over 30,000 roads have already been completed under the ongoing program, marking significant progress toward the target.

The government is also addressing past challenges, including bridges left without approach roads under the previous administration. Land acquisition has now been completed for 50 bridges, paving the way for smoother implementation.

With 53% of the allocated budget already utilised, the minister has instructed departments to achieve 100% utilization within the next three months. Officials believe this push will accelerate development and ensure tangible benefits for rural communities.

Road connectivity is expected to transform rural Odisha by improving access to education, healthcare, and markets, thereby strengthening the state’s overall socio-economic fabric.
