Odisha Pays Statewide Tribute to Shaheed Laxman Nayak on His Birth Anniversary
Odisha observed the birth anniversary of legendary tribal freedom fighter Shaheed Laxman Nayak with statewide homage ceremonies on Saturday.
Born on November 22, 1899, in Tentuligumma village of the undivided Koraput district (now Malkangiri), Nayak is remembered as a devoted disciple of Mahatma Gandhi and a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism.
The central ceremony took place at the Odisha Legislative Assembly near Gate No. 1, where Speaker Surama Padhy led the tribute by garlanding the martyr’s statue.
Forest & Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Raut, Information & Public Relations Deputy Director Sucheta Priyadarshini, and representatives of the Sabari Cultural Parliament joined in paying respects.
Parallel programs unfolded at Adivasi Padia in Bhubaneswar and Kalinga Hospital Square, where departmental officers and cultural leaders offered floral tributes.
Collectively, these events underscored Nayak’s enduring legacy of valour and devotion to the motherland, inspiring generations to uphold his ideals of sacrifice and service.
