Odisha Partners with IIM Sambalpur to Chart Bio-Economy Roadmap

Bhubaneswar, August 7 (OT Wedesk)— In a pioneering move to harness biotechnology for sustainable growth, the Odisha government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur to develop the state’s first Bio-Economy report.

The MoU, inked at Kharvel Bhawan, was formalized by Additional Secretary Puja Mishra and IIM Sambalpur Director Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, in the presence of Science & Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra and Principal Secretary Chithra Arumugam.

The initiative aims to assess Odisha’s biotechnology strengths, challenges, and opportunities, and create a strategic roadmap aligned with national and global bioeconomic practices.

“Biotechnology holds immense potential to drive Odisha’s growth trajectory,” said Minister Patra, calling the report a benchmark for future bio-industrial development.

The collaboration is expected to catalyze innovation and investment across healthcare, agriculture, and renewable energy sectors.

It will also address infrastructure gaps and skill development needs, positioning Odisha as a leader in India’s emerging bio-economy.

IIM Sambalpur will provide strategic expertise to attract bioindustries and promote sustainable practices.

The partnership signals a new era of research-driven policy-making aimed at economic transformation.
