Odisha Partners with GEAPP to Accelerate Clean Energy Transition
The Odisha Energy Department has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to fast‑track the state’s clean energy transition and modernise its power grid.
The agreement, witnessed by Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, marks a strategic step toward building a resilient, equitable, and investment‑ready energy future.
Under the MoU, Odisha will receive technical expertise, policy support, and financing pathways to implement multi‑sector transition plans.
A key focus will be the deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), enabling peak load management, renewable integration, and ancillary services.
GEAPP will assist with feasibility studies, procurement documentation, and performance monitoring frameworks to maximise project value.
The partnership also emphasises renewable‑led livelihood initiatives.
These include solarisation of irrigation under PM‑KUSUM, support for women‑led enterprises through the Decentralised Energy for Women’s Economic Empowerment (DEWEE) initiative, and energy efficiency interventions for MSMEs to reduce costs and boost productivity.
Balangir district has been selected as a model site for implementation.
Senior officials, including Principal Secretary of Energy Vishal Kumar Dev and OPTCL CMD Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, joined GEAPP representatives at the signing ceremony.
The collaboration underscores Odisha’s commitment to reliable power for all while linking clean energy with inclusive economic growth.
