Odisha Orders Relocation of 573 Post Offices to Panchayat Offices

The Odisha government has directed the relocation of 573 post offices to Panchayat offices across the state, in a move aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and improving service delivery in rural areas.

According to the Panchayati Raj Department, district collectors have been instructed to oversee the transition and ensure compliance.

While 71 post offices have already been shifted, the remaining must complete relocation by December 20, 2025.

Officials believe this integration will streamline administrative functions, enhance accessibility for rural citizens, and foster better coordination between local governance and postal services.

District administrations have been tasked with closely monitoring progress and submitting compliance reports to meet the deadline.

This initiative underscores Odisha’s broader effort to bring essential services closer to rural communities, reinforcing the role of Panchayats as the backbone of grassroots administration.
