Odisha MPs Push for Kharagpur RECA Land Allocation

A delegation of Odisha MPs, led by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to press for the allocation of 5,915 square metres of railway land in Kharagpur’s New Settlement area.

The land, currently used by the Railway Employees Cultural Association (RECA), has been at the centre of a three‑decade demand for formal transfer.

RECA, established in 1989, has played a vital role in promoting Odia culture, social welfare, and national integration among railway employees.

It runs a school, community facilities, and the Sri Jagannath Temple, serving as a hub of cultural and social activities.

Despite repeated recommendations from railway officials, the issue has remained unresolved since 1999, when Dharmendra Pradhan’s late father, Dr Debendra Pradhan, first raised it in Parliament.

The MPs described the matter as “special” and urged Vaishnaw’s personal intervention to ensure RECA’s continued development.

Supporting documents, including historical records and official correspondence, were submitted to strengthen the case.

Pradhan emphasised that RECA’s contribution extends beyond religious activities, fostering unity and social harmony across communities.
