Odisha Leads Watershed Development, Seeks Policy Upgrade for Greater Impact

In a national virtual review meeting chaired by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Odisha emerged as a frontrunner in implementing the Watershed Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (WDC-PMKSY 2.0).

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo highlighted the state’s effective utilisation of 88% of allocated funds, showcasing Odisha’s commitment to revitalising rainfed and degraded lands through integrated watershed management.

This strategic approach has significantly boosted agricultural productivity while empowering local communities with sustainable livelihood options.

Singh Deo proposed a revision in unit costs—raising them from Rs 22,000 to Rs 26,000 per hectare in plains and Rs 28,000 to Rs 35,000 in hilly regions—to reflect ground realities and enhance impact.

Odisha’s proactive stance was further recognised under the Prime Minister Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana, with four districts—Nuapada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, and Sundargarh—selected for focused agricultural development.

Senior officials, including Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee and Subrat Kumar Pand,a joined the meeting, reinforcing Odisha’s integrated approach to rural development and policy innovation.
