Odisha launches ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign in targeted areas
Bhubaneswar, Sept 17 (UNI) Odisha today launched the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is Service) campaign across identified and targeted areas of the state. The campaign will continue till October 2.
During this period, various cleanliness drives, anti-plastic campaigns, awareness programmes, and sanitation initiatives will be organised in schools, colleges, and rural areas.
A preparatory meeting on the campaign, chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja yesterday, decided to include a massive plantation drive along with health check-up and screening programmes under the theme “Healthy Women, Empowered Families.”
The Chief Secretary directed all participating departments and partner organisations to work in close coordination to ensure the campaign’s success.
According to official sources, identified sites will be taken up as focus areas this year to achieve visible transformation. The drive will focus on cleaning public places, organising sanitation safety camps, and promoting cleanliness awareness at all levels.
The Chief Secretary emphasised that cleanliness must become a way of life for everyone. He appealed to the government departments, educational institutions, voluntary organisations, and people from all walks of life to actively participate and transform cleanliness into a mass social movement.
On September 25, World Maritime Day, massive cleanliness and awareness drives will be held along sea beaches, riverbanks, and coastal areas. The campaign will highlight the slogan “One Day, One Hour, Together” to encourage people across the state to engage in simultaneous Shramdaan (voluntary labour) for cleanliness.
On October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, Swachhata Diwas (Cleanliness Day) will be observed. On this day, Safai Mitras (sanitation workers) will be honoured and rewarded for their contributions.
Volunteers from NCC, NSS, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, My Bharat, and other institutions making significant contributions to cleanliness will also be felicitated.
