Odisha Launches ‘Sahaya Gruha’ Shelters for Differently-Abled Women

The Odisha government has announced plans to set up Sahaya Gruha shelters across the state to provide safe accommodation and rehabilitation support for differently-abled women and girls.

The initiative will be implemented under the existing SAHAYA scheme, which focuses on inclusive welfare and social protection.

District collectors have been directed to submit feasibility reports assessing infrastructure, potential beneficiaries, and additional requirements.

Districts that do not require such facilities must formally communicate this to the government.

Special Secretary Rajani Jani has marked the directive as “MOST URGENT,” underscoring the state’s commitment to prioritising vulnerable groups.

However, the exercise excludes certain districts, including Balasore, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Sundargarh, and Subarnapur.

The move reflects Odisha’s broader push toward inclusive governance, ensuring that differently-abled women and girls receive care, dignity, and opportunities for rehabilitation.
