Odisha Launches ‘Rah-Veer’ Scheme, Offering Rs 25,000 to Life-Saving Good Samaritans

(OT Webdesk)In a bold step to elevate road safety and civic responsiveness, the Odisha government has announced its ‘Rah-Veer’ scheme, offering a cash incentive of Rs 25,000 to Good Samaritans who assist road accident victims during the golden hour.

His marks a dramatic jump from the current Rs 2,000 reward, reflecting the state’s commitment to honouring timely public intervention.

Launched under the guidance of Transport Department Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, the initiative mandates district collectors to establish appraisal sub-committees under the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC).

These panels—comprising the SP, CDMO, and RTO—will evaluate reports from police and hospitals to identify qualifying individuals.

Recognised ‘Rah-Veers’ will have their details uploaded to the national e-DAR (electronic Detailed Accident Report) platform, and rewards will be disbursed directly to their bank accounts within seven days.

Additionally, the government has instructed district administrations to conduct widespread awareness campaigns to promote public participation.

The ‘Rah-Veer’ scheme is a strategic effort to institutionalise compassion, creating a safer and more humane road ecosystem across Odisha.
