Odisha Launches Quad-City Economic Zones to Boost Industrial Growth

In a bold move to reshape its economic landscape, the Odisha government has launched a series of Quad-City Economic Zones aimed at accelerating industrialization, infrastructure development, and inclusive growth across the state.

Announced by Housing and Urban Development Secretary Usha Padhee, the initiative clusters key urban centers into strategic corridors.

The first zone connects Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack, and Paradip—merging the capital, cultural hub, administrative seat, and port town into a unified economic powerhouse.

Three additional zones are in development:

  • Koraput–Sunabeda–Sambalpur–Bargarh: Focused on agro-industries and tribal economies.
  • Rourkela–Keonjhar: Targeting steel and mining sector expansion.
  • A fourth zone is under discussion with NITI Aayog, with details to be finalized.

Padhee emphasized that urban expansion must be matched by economic activity: “We are integrating regions that contribute the most to Odisha’s GDP.”

The initiative is being steered by a dedicated state committee, with phased implementation and investment models under review.
