Odisha Launches “Kalinga Herbs” to Boost Herbal Economy

Bhubaneswar, Sept 25 — In a strategic move to position Odisha as a national leader in herbal innovation, the State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB) has unveiled “Kalinga Herbs,” a dedicated brand to promote medicinal plant-based products.

The announcement came during the 6th Executive Body Meeting of SMPB, chaired by Shri Satyabrata Sahu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of the Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department.

The meeting approved a comprehensive Five-Year Vision Plan focused on conservation, cultivation, and commercialisation of medicinal plants.

The initiative will be funded initially by the Odisha Forestry Sector Development Society (OFSDS), with future support through departmental convergence involving AYUSH, Panchayati Raj, and SC & ST Development.

To strengthen technical capacity, SMPB will sign MoUs in November 2025 with leading institutions, including FRLHT (Bengaluru), IRMA (Anand), and MSSRF (Chennai).

Additionally, a dedicated outlet for herbal products will be set up at RPRC, Bhubaneswar, enhancing public access to indigenous wellness solutions.

Senior officials, including Sri V. Karthick, IFS, Chief Executive of SMPB, and other dignitaries, attended the meeting, marking a milestone in Odisha’s green economy roadmap.
