Odisha Journalist Critical After Brutal Sword Attack in Nabarangpur

Papadahandi, Nabarangpur — In a chilling act of violence, journalist Sumit Kumar Ghanta was left critically injured after being attacked with sharp weapons late Friday night. The incident occurred near Bhabani Chhak while Ghanta was returning home.

Eyewitnesses report that the assailant, allegedly a drug-addicted youth under the influence of alcohol and narcotics, first struck Ghanta with a sword.

Despite his injuries, Ghanta attempted to resist, prompting the attacker to stab him multiple times with a knife, targeting his abdomen and chest.

Ghanta was initially rushed to a local hospital but was later transferred to Visakhapatnam due to the severity of his condition. Hospital sources confirm he remains in critical care.

Police investigations suggest the attack may have been retaliatory. Ghanta had previously filed a complaint against the accused for drug-related activities.

Locals intervened during the assault, apprehending and beating the attacker before handing him over to authorities. He is currently under medical care and police custody.

The incident has sparked outrage across Nabarangpur, with journalists and residents demanding swift justice. Police have launched a formal investigation and assured that strict action will be taken.
