Odisha Joins Forces with NITI Aayog and ISEG for a Bold Clean Energy Leap

In a landmark move towards sustainable development, the Government of Odisha has partnered with NITI Aayog and the Institute for Sustainability, Employment and Growth (ISEG) Foundation to accelerate the state’s clean energy transition.

The tripartite Statement of Intent (SoI), signed in Bhubaneswar, marks a strategic collaboration aimed at reshaping Odisha’s energy landscape in alignment with its Viksit Odisha 2036 and 2047 vision.

The initiative will leverage the ASSET (Accelerating Sustainable State Energy Transition) platform—developed by NITI Aayog in collaboration with the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy—to craft a cost-effective roadmap for renewable energy adoption, smarter grid systems, and climate finance mobilisation.

Key objectives include:

  • Promoting cleaner, affordable energy generation
  • Enhancing energy access through resilient transmission and distribution
  • Integrating advanced technologies in energy management and storage
  • Building institutional capacity and facilitating climate finance

Under the agreement:

  • NITI Aayog will offer strategic guidance and stakeholder coordination.
  • The Odisha Government will lead on-ground execution and inter-departmental integration.
  • ISEG Foundation will provide technical expertise, scenario modelling, and establish an “Energy War Room” for project oversight.

To ensure accountability and progress, a Central Oversight Committee chaired by NITI Aayog’s CEO and a State Steering Committee led by Odisha’s Principal Secretary of Energy will monitor implementation.

This partnership sets a precedent for scalable, data-driven energy transition models across Indian states—paving the way for a greener, more resilient future.
